The last two publications dealt with scenarios that I believe are absolutely possible as we approach the time of the decline in diamond production and the increase in the production of synthetic diamonds made by human hands.
Until relatively recently, synthetic diamonds very often were for people a means of generating additional profits by deceiving buyers. Even experts can not recognize synthetic diamonds without special equipment, and for many years such equipment was not available. Yes, labs can recognize MMD, but it can be assumed that only a small percentage went so far - most synthetic diamonds are small stones. In addition, the production volumes were so small that their detection was more often accidental than as a result of targeted search.
I remember that a few years ago I was told that the New York laboratory discovered synthetic diamonds, because the auction house required to check all the diamonds put on the auction, inserted into the product or uncorrected. I've never heard of any other company doing this.
Of course, "fake" diamonds are in circulation for a long time. There was always glass, but also crystals of alumium garnet and cubic zirconia. Cubic zirconia has found its place in the jewelry business. But none of them or stones such as white sapphires or moissonite were considered as a substitute for diamonds. But all of them have their own purpose - to offer people a cheaper alternative to diamonds and / or precious stones that look like diamonds.
People understood this, and at the same time they also understood that there are very different advantages and benefits from owning a "real diamond". There is an enduring value of the product, and there are many psychological moments when the jewelery is presented with a "real" stone.
