After the UN Security Council lifted the embargo on the export of diamonds from Cote d'Ivoire on April 29 this year, Indian diamantaires turned their eyes to this country, wishing to ensure the import of raw diamonds.
According to reports, raw diamonds mined in this West African country are of jewelery quality and can be sold at a higher price in the world market. Thus, now is the most suitable time for Indian diamantaires to explore the possibilities of organizing direct supplies of this raw material to India.
Côte d'Ivoire produces relatively few diamonds, compared with South Africa, Namibia, the Congo and Angola, or its immediate neighbors - Sierra Leone and Guinea. Nevertheless, these production figures can not be called insignificant.
