Government of India has assured its readiness to support businessmen in the establishment of the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB), Rapaport reports citing DNA India. A corresponding statement followed the appeal of members of the Surat Diamond Association (SDA) to the government with a request for the allocation of land for the construction of the SDB.
"Surat is the capital of diamond cutting and polishing and has huge capacities. The Indian government supports the further development of the city, including the establishment of the SDB as a diamond and jewelry center, and is ready to take the necessary steps in this direction, "said Saurabh Patel, Minister of Finance, Tourism, Energy and Mining.
Patel addressed the entrepreneurs and businessmen of the diamond sector during the opening ceremony of the new branch of the Gem & Jewelery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) in Surat.
He called the SDB an important initiative that will support the growth of the city's economy and create jobs. "Mumbai is already a diamond and jewelry capital, and it's not terrible if Surat becomes the second capital. It is necessary to make efforts to make Surat an international trading center, "Patel added.
SDA President Dinesh Navadia (Dinesh Navadia) asked the federal government to help resolve issues such as providing air communication, and the development of financial and tax systems.
