Zohair Nawab, president of the Saudi Geological Survey, said that work is underway to search for kimberlites in the Arab desert, Israelidiamond.co.il reports. Nawab noted that such stones and metals as olive aquamarine, pomegranate and chromium have already been found in the country, and that the presence of these minerals often indicates that there are diamond deposits nearby.
The current legislation of Saudi Arabia provides that any deposit of natural minerals discovered on the territory of the kingdom automatically becomes the property of the country, reports Albawaba. If, as it was predicted, diamonds will be found, it is assumed that they can cost billions of dollars. At the time of publication, Saudi Arabia is mining at four gold deposits.
