The company Petra Diamonds announced the investment of millions of dollars in exploration of diamonds in Botswana. The diamond mining company acquired Kalahari Diamonds in 2005, paying $ 22 million, giving it access to several licensed diamond exploration and exploration sites located in different parts of the South African state.
Petra Diamonds senior geologist for projects in Botswana, Maureen Tumelo Mokgaotsane, said at a Botswana Resource Sector conference last week that last week Petra spent 275 million pools for exploration in Botswana.
"Our large investments demonstrate serious intentions and commitment to finding diamonds in Botswana," Mokgaotsein said.
The division of Petra Diamonds in Botswana owns exploration concessions with a total area of about 21,520 square meters. km, located on the craton (geological formation, which may contain deposits of diamonds).
Currently, the company has focused on the evaluation of the recently discovered kimberlite KX36 and the study of adjacent areas.
Mokgaotsein said that in January of this year, Petra signed an agreement with Manica Minerals on cooperation in Botswana.
Exploration work within the joint venture will be fully funded by Petra Diamonds and will combine the rich experience of both companies in the field of exploration.
In addition, Mokgaotsein said that in fiscal year 2014, Petra plans to produce about 3 million carats of diamonds worth about $ 460 million.
Last year, the company produced 2.67 million carats of diamonds, with revenues of $ 402 million.
Petra owns five active diamond mines in South Africa and one project in Tanzania.
