The monitoring team of the Kimberley Process (KP) in the Central African Republic (CAR) has announced three new standards-compliant countries in the region: Boda, Nola and Carnot.
In July 2015 the KP agreed to provide part of the CAR the opportunity to resume diamond exports after the establishment of special zones "compliance" to ensure proper production and trade of diamonds.
Such zones are said to be "non-contentious."
KP in May 2013 banned the export of diamonds from the Central African Republic after rebels capture power in the country. International organizations have accused them of using illegally mined diamonds to finance their activities.
"Good news for the CAR in just five months after the KP Intersessional Meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where it was unanimously decided to resume exports from the prefecture Berberati", - said chairman of the KP from the UAE Ahmed Bin Sulayem (Ahmed Bin Sulayem).
"Today has been successfully exported two shipments of diamonds from Berberati. We managed to achieve good progress and hopefully we will be able to promote the normalization of the situation in the west of the Central African Republic."
