According to the Information Center of the Customs Administration of China, last year, polished diamond imports to China increased by 4.9% and amounted to $ 7.02 billion.
In real terms, polished imports increased by 1.2% to 7.7 million carats as the average price rose 3.7% to $ 916 per carat, according to the data presented.
Polished exports fell 11% to $ 1.91 billion, that is, net polished imports rose 12% to $ 5.12 billion.
While rough diamond exports increased by 11% to $ 30 million, rough diamond imports decreased by 13% up to $ 666 million, resulting in a reduction of net foreign imports by 14% to $ 635 million.
The balance of China's diamond trade, reflecting the difference between net imports and exports, increased by 9% to $ 5.75 billion.
