Diamond mining in Canada, an important trading partner for the diamond sector of Antwerp, in 2013 amounted to more than 5 million carats worth $ 970 million, according to the Antwerp World Diamond Center (AWDC).
According to the widespread information, now the Antwerp market is trading diamonds from the Ekati and Diavik fields.
The Canadian company Stornoway, in cooperation with the authorities of the Canadian province of Quebec, intends to annually produce up to 1.6 million carats of diamonds per year on the Renard project. The company intends to start commercial production of diamonds in the summer of 2016.
