Gemfields received a gross revenue of $ 8.5 million on the results of a raw emerald auction held in Indian Jaipur.
The gemstone company registered the average cost of emeralds at $ 58 per carat, which was a record high for the entire history of its auction sales.
Mining Weekly reports that at the last auction there were no emeralds and beryls produced, produced or exported from Kagem Mining in Zambia, where Gemfields owns a 75 percent share.
The goods put up for auction were obtained from various sources on the open market, some stones were previously sold at international auctions.
This year, the government of Zambia obliged emerald producers to organize auctions of raw materials mined in Zambia within that country.
Gemfields CEO Ian Harebottle (Ian Harebottle) said that the results of the auction confirm the benefits that can be used when selling stones obtained from various sources.
