It is expected that Zimbabwe will continue to sell its rough diamonds in Dubai, despite the fact that the UAE did not return the $ 30 million received by Global Diamond Tenders, which assisted in the tender for the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE) in March this year.
The mining minister of Zimbabwe, Walter Chidhakwa, said that he has no complaints about DDE, and the problem lies in the mediator.
"Dubai as a whole is not rejected as a market, a problem in the intermediary. We have been selling diamonds in Dubai since 2007 - and we have never had any problems. This is a very good and attractive market, and we have opportunities for further sales of diamonds in Dubai, "Chidakva said.
Zimbabwe exported approximately 400,000 carats of diamonds to Dubai, which were sold at an average price of $ 76 per carat.
Authorities in Harare said that prices for the Dubai tender grew by 5.4% compared to the previous tender in Antwerp, where the average price per carat was $ 72.
